Journal of Contemporary Indonesian Art (JOCIA) or Journal of Indonesian Contemporary Art is a scientific journal that publishes research results and creative works in the field of contemporary art related to Indonesia. which is designated as a Sinta 4 accredited journal. Contemporary art is defined as the latest artistic phenomenon in the art world. The journal covers a wide range of art forms such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, comics, new media art, and other emerging art expressions, including those that have not been formally classified. The main characteristic of the works published in this journal is the emphasis on aesthetic value rather than functional value.
Published by the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, ISI Yogyakarta, JOCIA initially focused on the study of contemporary art connected to Indonesia. In 2025, JOCIA expanded its mission to provide a space for critical reflection on the dialectic between theory and practice of contemporary art more broadly, beyond the boundaries of works related only to Indonesia. This change in scope aims to respond to the growing transdisciplinary perspectives in art, as well as recognizing the increasingly connected global art discourse.
